Makhdoom Ali Khan is a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and a former Attorney General for Pakistan.

He read law at Karachi, Cambridge, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Lincoln’s Inn.

During his tenure as Attorney General, he advised the Government of Pakistan on all Bilateral Investment Treaty and Public International Law issues. He led the BIT negotiations with other states, and was also one of the lawyers involved in drafting the laws that incorporated the New York Convention and the International Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and the Nationals of other States in Pakistan law.

Makhdoom Ali Khan was a member of the court of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). He is appointed as Vice Chair of the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association (“IBA”), was on the Board of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), and is a Fellow of The International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is a member of the Board of the American Arbitration Association, and a member of the Governing Body of the International Counsel for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA).

Additionally, he is on the Advisory Board of the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR), on the panels of arbitrators of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA), the Shanghai International Arbitration Centre (SHIAC) and the Mauritius International Arbitration Centre Limited (MIAC). He was also designated as an arbitrator on the ICSID panel for arbitrators by the President of the World Bank for a six-year term, which ended October 2017.

He has appeared in many important commercial and constitutional cases before the High Courts and the Supreme Court of Pakistan.  He is also appearing as counsel and sitting as an arbitrator in several ad hoc, institutional, domestic, international commercial and investment arbitrations.

• Chambers Global 2010 ranked Makhdoom Ali Khan as the best litigator in Pakistan under their Lawyer Rankings for Dispute Resolution, ranking him alone in Band 1. Ali Almani is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and a Partner at Fazleghani Advocates since 2014.

After completing a bachelors degree in Economics from Yale University (2004), Ali earned his Juris Doctorate from Harvard University (2008) and Masters in Law from the University of Cambridge (2008). He joined Fazleghani Advocates in April 2008 and became a Partner in July 2014.

He regularly appears before the High Courts and various administrative tribunals in Pakistan, including the Competition Appellate Tribunal, the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue, the Securities & Exchange Commission and the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Ali has built a large and diverse practice. His primary areas of practice are tax litigation, commercial and regulatory disputes and constitutional law.

He has successfully appeared for and advises some of the largest groups and companies in Pakistan – including British Petroleum, Daraz, DP World, the Engro group of companies, Habib Bank Limited, House of Habib, Hutchison Ports, the Indus Motor Company, KUFPEC, Shell Petroleum, and United Energy Petroleum among others – in major tax litigation and commercial and regulatory disputes.

Along with Senior Partner Makhdoom Ali Khan, he successfully represented a major power producer in international arbitration against the Government of Pakistan. He is presently acting for two other power producers in ongoing international arbitrations against the Government of Pakistan.

Ali frequently represents and advises the Government of Sindh. He was involved in the negotiations between the federal and provincial governments leading up to the National Finance Commission Award 2010. He helped draft the Sindh Sales Tax on Services Act 2011 and represented the Government of Sindh in the preceding negotiations between the provincial governments. Ali has also appeared for several current and former Members of Parliament and the Provincial Assembly of Sindh in election petitions before the High Courts.

Hyder Ali Khan is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and a Partner at Fazleghani Advocates since 2014.

He read law at the School of Oriental and African Studies (2007) and the University of London (2009). He first joined the Karachi office of the firm in July 2008, and then practised at its Islamabad office from 2010 till 2013. He has been based at the Karachi office since then, but continues to sit at the Islamabad office as well.

Hyder Ali Khan predominantly practises as an Advocate at the High Court of Sindh and the Islamabad High Court. He also appears regularly before the Lahore High Court and Tribunals across Pakistan, and has previously practised extensively at the Islamabad Civil & District Courts in commercial disputes, the Accountability Court Islamabad, and before the National Tariff Commission.

He handles a large part of the firm’s general commercial, drug laws, judicial review and constitutional law, taxation, and other regulatory disputes practice, with a particular focus on and expertise in taxation from a judicial review and constitutional law perspective, as well as from a pure tax law perspective.

He has appeared successfully in a number of important cases, including landmark judgments involving clients like Atlas Honda Limited; Standard Chartered Bank; Maersk Line Pakistan Private Limited; MSC Agency Limited; APL Pakistan Limited; CMA CGM; Suzuki Motor Company; Roche Pakistan Limited; Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited; ENI and KUFPEC; Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan Limited; and Unilever Pakistan Limited.

Hyder Ali Khan has also assisted Senior Partner Makhdoom Ali Khan in numerous landmark taxation and constitutional cases from 2008 to 2013 before the Islamabad High Court, High Court of Sindh at Karachi, and the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He is presently advising and representing numerous national and multinational entities across various sectors, as well as high net-worth individuals in almost every major taxation related issue and/or dispute before the High Courts of Pakistan. Abdul Ghaffar Khan joined Fazleghani Advocates in  1984. He is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He has worked with and assisted the founder of the firm Fazle Ghani Khan and Senior Partner Makhdoom Ali Khan in a number of high profile cases in the Sindh High Court as well as the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Saad Mumtaz Hashmi joined the Islamabad Office of Fazleghani Advocates in 2011. He is an Advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan and has been involved in a number of important cases before the High Courts and the Supreme Court of Pakistan. In 2011, he was part of the team, which successfully argued and secured the restoration of four Honourable Judges of the Lahore High Court in the case of Munir Hussain Bhatti v.
